This double-set of adult ESL summer vocabulary action phrase cards gives students two ways to practice with no screens required and no tech to troubleshoot. Both the flashcards and the matching cards use the same 25 summer action phrases and the same illustrations in both color and in black and white.

These summer vocabulary phrases like stay hydrated, seek shade, deal with humidity, and scratch mosquito bites might not show up in textbooks but absolutely come up in real life.

Sometimes the right thing is a physical card on a table, not an image on a screen. Students can flip, sort, match, and quiz each other in ways that a digital activity just doesn't replicate. For vocabulary work at this level, the tactile back-and-forth of partner practice and small group activities is often where English worms its way into memory.

No login or waiting for a device to load. All you have to do is print, cut, and teach. (And maybe laminate if that’s your thing.)

THIS IS DESIGNED FOR YOUR ADULT ESL STUDENTS

Every phrase in this resource reflects real summer experiences, the kind adult students actually participate in, talk about, and have opinions on. Several of the phrases will feel immediately familiar to some students and completely foreign to others, which makes them natural conversation starters about climate, culture, and daily life. That means this resource does more than build vocabulary. It opens up the kind of speaking practice that connects to students' real lives, sweat and all.

⚠️A NOTE ON THE IMAGES

The illustrations in this resource were created using AI image generation. Many of these phrases, like complain about the heat, deal with humidity, scratch mosquito bites, can be difficult to photograph, and AI generation made it possible to illustrate all 25 clearly and consistently in color and in printer-friendly black and white clipart.
