Active and Passive Voice GRAMMAR TASK CARDS - Review, Remediation & Adult ESL
These 48 active and passive voice task cards give adult ESL grammar students focused, flexible practice through two distinct activity options so that you can choose the approach that fits your class best.
Active and passive voice is one of those grammar concepts that takes more than a single lesson to really internalize the concept. These cards give your students the repeated, varied exposure they need to move from confusion to confidence.

TWO OPTIONS FOR HOW YOU USE THEM
- Option 1: Students transform active sentences into passive ones and vice versa, create original sentences using both voices, and answer active/passive voice questions.
- Option 2: Students identify whether sentences are active or passive, develop their own sentences showcasing both voices, and respond to active/passive voice questions.
HOW TO USE THIS SET
Assign the cards individually for independent practice, in pairs for low-pressure peer conversation, or in small groups for collaborative review. Both options work well as in-class practice, early finisher work, or a grammar station in a rotating activity format.
THIS WAS CREATED FOR YOUR ADULT ESL STUDENTS
This resource was designed for beginner to intermediate adult ESL students who need targeted reinforcement of active and passive voice, not just a quick introduction. The two-option format means you can differentiate based on where your students are, using the identification-focused Option 2 for students who need more scaffolding and the transformation-focused Option 1 for those ready for a bigger challenge.
These cards also work well with secondary ESL students and secondary native English speakers who have gaps in their grammar knowledge that need filling.
