Halloween Idioms Activity Pack for Adult ESL
Want to spookify your lesson on figurative language? This Halloween idioms activity pack for adult ESL is perfect for haunting (make that “engaging”) your students. Maybe you don’t start Halloween on July 5 (looking at my ghoul-obsessed neighbors), but especially if your adult ESL students have children, they’re going to hear about it at least for a few weeks in October.
With this, your students will learn 30 idioms and expressions that they might hear or want to use. They’ll be practicing and reviewing all 30 with activities that make the terms memorable. These pages will be the ones that go home with them, not get tossed in the trash on their way out at the end of class.
Idioms are the kind of everyday English that fluent speakers use without thinking twice but present a roadblock to people learning English. That’s why your students need to understand that operating on "a skeleton crew" means they’re going to have a hectic day at work and that "working the graveyard shift" won’t happen in a cemetery, Once they get that, they can start having fun making figurative language part of their daily communication.
